Thri-kreen

Insectoid humanoids from the arid heartlands — four arms, a chitinous exoskeleton, compound eyes, and a mindset that operates on hive-adjacent frequencies. Thri-kreen are not a hive mind, but they communicate in ways that bypass language: pheromones, mandible clicks, subtle colour shifts in their carapace. Most other races find them deeply alien. Most Thri-kreen find that entirely mutual.

Racial Traits

Creature Type: Monstrosity (Humanoid) Secondary Arms: Two additional arms that can hold objects, interact with items, and perform other tasks — but cannot wield weapons or shields. Chameleon Carapace: As an action, change your carapace colour to match surroundings, gaining advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks. Darkvision: 60 ft. Thri-kreen Telepathy: Communicate telepathically with any creature within 120 ft that shares a language, and wordlessly with other Thri-kreen. Natural Armor: When unarmoured, AC = 13 + Dexterity modifier. Sleep: Thri-kreen do not sleep. They enter a state of torpor for 4 hours and remain semiconscious.


Appearance

Six limbs total (four arms, two legs); mantis-like upper body; chitinous plates in sandy yellows, browns, or mottled patterns; large compound eyes; articulated mandibles flanking the mouth. Typically 6 ft tall but lean. Their movement is simultaneously jerky and fluid in a way that unsettles mammalian observers.


Found In

The Hives — a Thri-kreen-dominated region in the Sikassan/Nesian borderlands. Also encountered in desert and warm-plains territories throughout southern Amantia.
