Armor
Amantia is a vast tapestry of many cultures, each with its own technology level. Adventurers have access to armor ranging from leather to plate, and many warriors supplement their armor with a shield.

Armor Descriptions
Images from the 2024 Player’s Handbook.
Breastplate
A fitted metal chest piece worn with supple leather. Protects vital organs without encumbering the wearer’s movement.
Chain Mail
Interlocking metal rings over a quilted underlayer. Includes gauntlets. Heavy but thorough.
Chain Shirt
Interlocking metal rings worn between layers of clothing or leather. Modest protection for the upper body; the sound is muffled by outer layers.
Half Plate
Shaped metal plates covering most of the body, without full leg protection beyond simple greaves.
Hide
Thick furs and pelts. Common among barbarian tribes and those who lack access to refined materials.
Leather
A boiled leather breastplate and shoulder protectors with softer, flexible material elsewhere. The classic light armor.
Padded
Quilted layers of cloth and batting. Light but noisy.
Plate
Shaped, interlocking metal plates covering the entire body, with gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick padding. Buckles and straps distribute weight. The gold standard of martial protection.
Ring Mail
Leather armor with heavy rings sewn into it. Inferior to chain mail. Usually worn by those who cannot afford better.
Scale Mail
Leather coat and leggings covered with overlapping metal scales. Includes gauntlets.
Shield
A defensive piece carried in the hand or strapped to the arm. Courage with a handle: painted, battered, and often the thin wall between a hero and a very sharp ending.
Spiked Armor
Rare dwarven armor: a leather coat and leggings covered in metal spikes. When grappling, the spikes function as a martial melee weapon (Light; 1d4 Piercing).
Spiked Buckler
A small, light shield with a central boss and projecting spike. Can make an attack (martial melee, Light; 1d4 Piercing). If worn on the arm (rotella style), the spike is largely ornamental — attacks made with it have Disadvantage.
Splint
Narrow vertical strips of metal riveted to a leather backing, worn over cloth padding. Flexible chain mail protects the joints.
Studded Leather
Tough flexible leather reinforced with close-set rivets or spikes. Better protection than plain leather with no stealth penalty.
Barding
Armor designed for a mount. Any armor type can be purchased as barding.
