Background

Aldric is Vesper Crowe’s father. He and his wife Nessa Crowe remain in Ashveil, afflicted by the curse laid by Maren Voss. The hexblood mark is not in the family bloodline — it came entirely from Maren’s ritual. Aldric had no part in what was done to Vesper and no knowledge of what Maren truly was.

Vesper’s relationship with his parents is complicated: love, guilt, and the particular weight of having brought Maren into the village — someone who ultimately destroyed it.
