Cosmology & The Planes
The Creation of the Cosmos
Amantia was not forged by intention — it congealed in the tides of divine madness. The Elder Elemental Gods dreamed, and their dreams shaped existence. See History of Amantia for the full account.
The Divine Hierarchy
The cosmos of Amantia has a layered divine structure:
1. Elder Elemental Gods
Ancient, alien, and unknowable. Their presence is felt in madness, the deep ocean, forbidden knowledge, and the spaces between worlds. They do not intervene with intention — their influence seeps. See Deity Index.
2. Primordial Gods
The first focused deities. Shapers of the four elements and the physical world. Still active, still worshipped — particularly by Genasi and elemental cults.
3. The Arcadian Gods
The dominant human pantheon. Their names form the calendar week. Active and interventionist. Most mortal religions on the Rose Subcontinent and Holy Rose Empire draw from this pantheon.
4. Cultural Pantheons
The Giant Pantheon, Dragon Pantheon, Elven traditions, Dwarven traditions, and others operate alongside or beneath the Arcadian gods.
The Underdark: Niflheim
The surface world has a counterpart — Niflheim, the underdark realm. The Dual Kingdom of Edrum-Khaelyth is unique in that it spans both worlds, with a Dwarf King ruling the surface and a Holy Queen ruling Niflheim.
Planar Travel
The god Orr-Ygnometh (the Key of All Ways) wove portals and time-threads across reality from the beginning — making dimensional travel a fundamental part of the cosmos. Planar travel, conjuration, and dimensional magic are ancient arts in Amantia.
Magic Philosophy
Competing magical traditions exist across the world. The Galdravess Magocracy (Land of the Spell-Fellowship) is one of the most formalised arcane institutions, ruled by a Council of Mages. Sorcerers, Warlocks, and Wizards each navigate different relationships with Amantia’s magical history.
DM Note
The lingering scars of the Elder Elemental Gods are potential sources of major adventure hooks — places where their ancient madness has not fully faded from the world.
